Men and women, old and young, have taken to tattoos – covering their body’s with ink. The ancient art has has taken the fitness scene by storm.

However, a recent study has provided pause for thought. The Alma College in Michigan study found tattooed skin generated about half the amount of sweat as the non-tattooed skin and the sweat from a tattooed person contained twice as much sodium.

The study was published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise. It involved 10 healthy men aged about 21. Each had a tattoo on one side of their upper body (such as an arm), but not the other.
