Wollongong is known for its beaches, the Dragons, the Hawks, the Uni and its art. The Wollongong City Council passed the motion to adopt a Cultural plan on Monday 12 May, however a rescission motion followed three days later. The Wollongong City Council ultimately decided on Monday night to pull funding from the Cultural plan, which would have included live music, giving artists space in industrial buildings and an arts hub in the Wollongong Town Hall Basement. According to a survey conducted by the Illawarra Mercury, over 86 percent of readers believe that a cultural plan would help enliven the Wollongong CBD.

Find out later today from multimedia reporters Joe Smith, Kelsey Sutor and Lucy Dean.
