National Reconciliation Week festivities will kick-start next week, with the Walk for Reconciliation taking place on Thursday the 30th of May.
The Walk, in its third year, will start at the canteen at Wollongong TAFE and end on the University of Wollongong’s Duck Pond Lawn.
Once at the University, activities will include performances by international indigenous rap group ‘Street Warriors’, Aboriginal Dancers, speeches from guest speakers, and a barbeque lunch.
Event Coordinator Jane Strang says that the highly successful event aims to “promote stronger relations between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians” and to raise awareness for the reconciliation campaign.
She says that the event is expected to build on last years turnout of 200-250 people and reach up to 300 people.
