This weekend marks the Salvation Army’s 47th annual Red Shield appeal and Illawarra residents are being urged to give generously.
The aim for this year’s appeal is to raise the nation wide goal of $79 million, in the Salvation Army’s most lucrative fund raising event.
The Illawarra Mercury reported Major Bruce Harmer’s views that the appeal is vital in ensuring the Salvos could continue to assist Australians in need.
“The Salvation Army is known for supporting those who need it most. However, in order to do this, we need the community’s support,” he said.
“With their help, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of the most disadvantaged and marginalised within our community.”
The Salvation Army, with funds from the Red Shield Appeal, provides essential help to many Australians in need.
It provides crisis accommodation, delivers early intervention services for children and families in disadvantaged communities as well as providing food and clothing.
