The Dragons have helped secure their future as contenders by re-signing promising hooker, Mitch Rein, today to a three-year deal.
A Kiama junior, Rein made his debut for the Dragons in 2011 and has since claimed the role of starting hooker, drawing talks of possible Blues squad selection in the future.
“I am a local junior and love the club,” Rein said in a statement.
“I am really happy here and excited to know that I have my future secured here for at least the next three seasons.”
Rein said a week ago that staying with the St George club was a priority and today told the media he was committed to the club and its supporters.
“Dragons fans are a very passionate bunch and every time I put the jersey on I try to give it my all for them as well as my coach and teammates,” he said.
The re-signing for the club comes after an ensemble of recruitments were added from 2014 including Melbourne halfback, Gareth Widdop; Souths Centre, Dylan Farrell and English prop, Mike Cooper.
Coach Steve Price says the decision to keep Rein came from not only his playing ability, but his place as a role model in the club.
“Mitch is an important part of this team and I am pleased by his decision to remain at the club,” Price says.
“He is a very talented and hard-working player who you would want in the trenches with and sets a fine example for all the younger players here at the club.”
Michael Weyman, Matt Cooper, Nathan Fien, Chase Stanley and Matt Prior are all off-contract at the end of the season and are still unsigned for 2014.
