Lizzie Hunter is on campus seeing how UOW students dine.

Dr Jimmy Chun Yu Louie, University of Wollongong lecturer in Nutrition & Dietetics, has discovered that teenage boys are consuming 22 teaspoons of processed sugar in their food every day.

That’s 13% of our recommended daily calorie intake, which brings in to question how much good we’re doing by skipping that one sugar in the coffee.

Dr Eleanor Beck, also from the UOW Nutrition Dietetics school, believes that limiting sugar intake is more important than varying your diet as long as you are covering your major food groups.

In light of this, Wollongong community group ‘Stir it up!’ believe education and training in healthy eating is essential for school workers.
