A recent study by nutrition scientist Dr. Joan Sabate, has found that a Mediterranean diet can cut the risk of heart disease and stroke by up to 30 per cent.

The study involved more than 7000 people who were at risk of heart disease, and after nearly five years, the was a clear and constant benefit from the diet that involves a mix of fruit and vegetables, fruit, olive oil, legumes, nuts, fish, with small amounts of dairy and meat.

Links from mental health to the diet have also been made, and it has been connected to reducing the risk of depression. Further studies by Dr Sabate will also conclude if people who currently have depression, experience any benefit by going onto the diet.
