Wollongong was blanketed in a smoky haze today from hazard reduction burning being carried out in the region.
The decision to conduct the burn off has been made in the hope it will reduce the likelihood of future bush fires by getting rid of bushland.
The fire is currently located near Helensburgh and the burn off is expected to continue until Friday, depending on weather conditions.
Other controlled fires are occurring in different parts of the South Coast.
