The 22nd Fitness 5 Fun run kicks off this Sunday 1st April 8.30 am at Crown St, Wollongong.
The run is expected to attract more than 700 participants.
Race director, Murray Smith says that “the run is growing larger every year and we’re expecting numbers to increase by more than 50 runners this year.”
The annual event, run by Kembla Joggers, has raised over $100,000 for local charities and community projects since the first run. Mr Smith says that this year’s race is expected to raise $12,000 for the West Dapto Cross-Country Park Project Fund. Previous charities to benefit include Camp Quality, the Beaton Park Grandstand Fund, Wollongong Hospital Oncology Ward and many more.
Apart from raising money for charity, the 5km run also promotes a healthy lifestyle in the community and shows off the cities greatest attributes including Cliff Rd, Wollongong lighthouse and city beach.
The cost to participate in the run is $23.00 for singles and $45.00 for family entry. It is more expensive to register on the day and new comers are encouraged to arrive at 7.15am.
The event is the Illawarra’s largest funrun and attracts competitors from all over the world. Mr Smith says “we are excited to welcome a triathlete from the USA and also 8 triathletes from the NSW Institute of Sports, Triathlete Program.”
