Tomorrow is National Close the Gap Day, an Oxfam initiative aimed at “achieving Indigenous health equality within 25 years”.
To mark this occasion, Waminda Indigenous Health Centre is launching its new “Mums and Bubs” program aimed at “helping lower the national [Aborignal infant morality] statistics” says Hayley Longbottom, a Primary Health Care worker at the clinic.
The program aims to provide increased access to pre-natal, antenatal and continuing care.
“Here at Waminda, we aim to be a one-stop-shop, doing the work of a Midwife and a Doctor all in the one building.”
There will be a welcome to country and aboriginal dances for the open day tomorrow, performed by local primary school children. A healthy lunch will be provided.
The open day begins at 11am; Waminda is located at 77 Osborne St Nowra and can be reached on 02 44 217 400 for more information.
