The ‘Welcome to Wollongong’ reception will take place tomorrow afternoon on Wollongong University’s duckpond lawn. The event in its fifth year aims at enhancing the experience of all first year tertiary students, who will study in the region. UOW’s Community Engagement Manager Leanne Newsham said, “the event aims to give students, both domestic and international, the chance to feel welcome and engage with their community and city.”

Wollongong University is hosting the event for the first time, as part of the Student Life Program.   The ‘Welcome’ is run in conjunction with Wollongong City Council, Tafe Illawarra Institute and other local community groups. Up to 1000 students are expected to attend the ‘Welcome’ which will feature a ‘Welcome to Country’ by Uncle Richard Davis and a ‘Welcome to City’ by Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery.
