Casual Academics at the University of Wollongong are today holding a meeting on employment security of casual staff in higher education institutions.

The Wollongong University has one of the highest rates of casual teaching in regional NSW.

The NSW National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) secretary Genevieve Kelly states “there are approximately 67 000 casuals in the university sector in Australia and more then 50% of the courses are taught by casual staff.”

The meeting coincides with the launch of the NTEU’s handbook ‘Smart Casuals’ and is being held two days before the ACTU inquiry into insecure work being held at the university.
